What the job involves

As a Care Support Worker, you will visit clients in their own homes at the scheduled time and provide care and support in line with their individual care plan.

Your role may include:

• Supporting clients with personal care, including washing, dressing and continence care
• Supporting clients with their medication as directed
• Preparing meals and supporting clients with eating and drinking
• Helping clients to move safely around their home
• Supporting clients to maintain their independence and dignity
• Providing companionship and day-to-day support
• Keeping clients safe and reporting any concerns to the care team
• Completing clear and accurate care records after each visit

Every client is different, and the support you provide will depend on their individual needs and care plan. The role involves providing personal care and supporting clients with their daily routines, so it is important that you are comfortable with these responsibilities.

What we are looking for

We are looking for people who:

• Are caring, patient and respectful
• Have a friendly manner that helps clients feel comfortable in their own homes
• Are reliable and understand the importance of arriving at scheduled visit times
• Respect clients' privacy, dignity and independence
• Have the right to work in the UK
• Are willing to complete an enhanced DBS check
• Can provide two references
• Have enough written English to complete accurate care records
• Are willing to follow care plans, policies and procedures

Previous care experience is welcome but is not essential. Full training will be provided.

Speaking Bengali, Sylheti, Urdu, Somali or another language commonly spoken in the local community is also useful and can help us provide support that meets the needs of our clients.

Contracts and working hours

Our Care Support Worker roles are offered on zero-hours contracts.

This means we do not guarantee a set number of hours each week, and you are not required to accept every shift or visit offered to you.

This type of contract can work well for people who need flexibility around family, studies or other commitments. However, it may be less suitable if you need a guaranteed number of working hours or a fixed weekly income.

We will be open and honest at interview about the number of hours and visits we realistically expect to have available.

What happens after you apply

1. Application review. We will review your application and contact you for a short telephone conversation if we feel you may be suitable for the role.
2. Interview. You will be invited to a face-to-face interview, including some simple scenario-based questions about providing care and supporting clients.
3. Pre-employment checks. If you are offered a role, we will request two references, check your right to work in the UK and apply for your enhanced DBS check.
4. Training and shadowing. You will complete your induction training and then shadow an experienced Care Support Worker before providing care independently.

You cannot start providing care visits until your enhanced DBS check has been completed. This means there may be some time between receiving a job offer and starting your first shift.
